First, you need a container for your goods and second, you need an empty container to bring back. This means that if your company has an odd number of containers at the port then they&#8217;re holding on to an empty one until their next incoming shipment arrives. The only way around this is by paying substantial per-diem and demurrage charges (which can cost up to $300\/day). These are costs that could be avoided with a little planning ahead of time.
